About

Growing up in the mountainous terrain of West Virginia, Emily was heavily influenced by her experiences in the natural world. Her work, both creative and research-based, often reflects this interest in nature and explores themes of resilience, disturbance, folk storytelling, and queerness. Emily’s past research work has been presented at the Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology’s annual conference (2021) where she was awarded the Mary Rice Award for Best Student Presentation in the Division of Invertebrate Zoology. Emily holds a BA in Biology and Japanese from Swarthmore College and is currently pursuing a PhD in Integrative Biology at Oregon State University. In addition to research, Emily writes and performs folk music, swing dances, and helps create audio-based fiction. You can find Emily on Twitter @EmilyDoesBio.
